5th anniversary of the Zagreb earthquake
Saturday, March 22, 2025, marks 5 years since Zagreb was hit by an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, and among the numerous buildings and facilities in the City of Zagreb and the wider area, the School of Medicine University of Zagreb suffered major damage.
Although structural reconstruction was initiated early, when the School buildings were brought into a usable state, after the earthquake that struck Banovina on December 29, 2020, the complete reconstruction of the damaged buildings of the Schoolof Medicine was initiated.

The renovation, which included buildings at the locations Šalata 3 (Dean's Office) and Šalata 3b, Šalata 10 (Pathology), Šalata 11 (Anatomy, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine) and Rockfellerova 4 (School of Public Health "Andrija Štampar"), was financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European Union Solidarity Fund.
5 years after the devastating earthquake, we can proudly point out that the buildings at the locations Šalata 3b, Šalata 10 and Rockfellerova 4 have been completely renovated and are in full function, while the renovation works at the locations Šalata 3 and Šalata 11 are in the final phase and are expected to be put into use soon.
How looked like on March 22, 2020 at Šalata, the progress of the works and the renovated Pathology building (Šalata 10) watch in the following video:
The School of Medicine University of Zagreb thanks all stakeholders in the reconstruction, especially the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the contractors, as well as the School employees, students and associates who successfully carried out their tasks and obligations in parallel with the demanding reconstruction process.
