Completed Comprehensive Renovation of Pathology Building at Šalata 10
The Building Act for the Faculty of Medicine and the State Hospital with Clinics in Zagreb enabled the construction of the building at Šalata 10, which began in 1919 and was completed in 1922 when the Institute of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy (currently the Institute of Pathology) moved in.
After the Zagreb earthquake in 2020, the building could be partially used, contingent upon minor repairs, such as removing damaged plaster from walls and ceilings, repairing the damaged roof, and supporting parts of the ground floor and first floor with steel beams near the cracked part of the load-bearing wall of the outer facade, above which heavy electron microscopes are located.
The earthquake-resistant repairs in the second half of 2020 enabled the functioning of the central and auxiliary staircases, and the hall, corridors, and offices were made operational.
Through the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), funds in the amount of EUR 14,163,668.93 were secured for the Šalata 10 building, and after selecting partners and contractors at the beginning of 2023, a comprehensive renovation of the building began.
The comprehensive renovation was completed within the agreed timeframe, and the handover of the building took place on 12 July 2024. We hereby thank the designers, conservators, supervising engineers, and everyone involved in the renovation process, especially the contracting companies Projektgradnja Plus and Osijek-Koteks.
The Pathology building at Šalata 10 is the first completed project financed by the European Union Solidarity Fund and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan on the Šalata campus, and its opening is expected in September of this year.
