Prof. Zdravko Lacković won the 2022 State Science Award

The Croatian 2022 State Science Award, in the category of Lifetime Achievement, was awarded to Prof. Zdravko Lacković, MD, PhD a retired professor of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine.

Professor Lacković has more than 50 years of continuous scientific research. He published more than 260 professional and scientific papers, most of which are indexed in global databases. His works were cited more than 2,000 times with H-index 28. He co-authored and/or edited 12 books, a PhD study manual, and published one independent book, as well as held 158 invited lectures.

Professor Lacković's most significant scientific findings relate to the study of biogenic amines in the cerebrospinal fluid, including the degradation of dopamine in dopaminergic neurons, the development of methods for measuring serotonin and its metabolites. He also investigated the biology of botulinum toxins and their use in pain management.

Professor Lackovic led 13 domestic and international projects, mentored 14 master's and PhD theses organised 17 international gatherings.

He founded the Neuropharmacology Laboratory at the Research Department of Pharmacology. He is the founder and first president of the Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System. He was a member of numerous national committees and boards, received the 2013 State Science Award, is an honorary professor at the Karaganda Medical University. and a full member of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences.
