The Student Council of the University of Zagreb is an umbrella organization of students representing all students of the University of Zagreb. It is a student electoral representative body that protects the interests of students of the School, participates in decision-making in the School bodies, and represents students of the School in the system of higher education. The Student Council was founded at the end of 1996 when the Croatian Parliament passed the Student Council Act.
Since the Student Council is established by law and operates on democratic principles (student elections are held every two years), the Student Council is the only one authorized to represent the entire student population.
Student representatives and their alternates elected in the student elections will enter the Chairmanship of the Student Council branch of each University of Zagreb constituent. In the case of our School of Medicine, the students are elected in March every two years. The president of the branch is elected from among the selected students.
All presidents of the student councils of individual University constituents, together with seventeen students from the University list who are elected directly, constitute the Student Council of the University.
The Student Council aims to protect the rights and promote the interests of students at the level of individual higher education institutions (faculties, schools, colleges, polytechnics), as well as at the national and international level.
At the level of our School, student representatives do this by equal participation and work in the Faculty Council, at the Management Board, as well as committees: Committee for Teaching, Committee for Scientific Research, International Relations Committee, and many others.
