The Centre for Palliative Medicine, Medical Ethics and Communication Skills of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine) was established by the decision of the Faculty Council in 2010 as a scientific and professional organizational unit of the School in which activities in the field of palliative medicine, medical ethics, and communication skills are carried out and which provides professional-consultative opinions and expertise in this field of work.
The Centre has extensive international cooperation in the fields of palliative care and communication skills training. In a proactive approach to the development of the organised palliative care system in the Republic of Croatia, the Centre brings together experts of various profiles. The Centre continuously educates professionals working with patients with severe and incurable diseases or working on projects to establish different palliative care units in Croatia.
It is recognized in the public by a series of activities in its field (e.g. ,the Communication Against Pain (Cro. Komunikacijom protiv boli), Stay with Me (Cro. Ostani uz mene), which are conducted in cooperation with the Croatian Society for Palliative Medicine, Croatian Centre for Palliative care, various NGOs, the Academy of Dramatic Art, Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Music, and others.
